A 49-year-old Westhampton Beach man was arrested after a woman told police he pointed a long gun at her during a domestic incident, leading investigators to seize more than 20 firearms from a Mill Road residence.
Westhampton Beach police responded to the home July 29 following a report of a domestic disturbance.
Police said the parties had been involved in a verbal dispute that began earlier that evening at a local business and continued after they returned home. While officers were investigating, the complainant said the suspect had pointed a long firearm at her, causing her to fear for her life.
Officers searched the surrounding area and found Alex Georgakakos, 49, of Westhampton Beach near the residence, police said. He was taken into custody without incident and brought to Westhampton Beach Police Headquarters.
Investigators later obtained a search warrant for the residence. Police said the search recovered more than 20 firearms, including handguns, shotguns, an assault-style rifle and numerous high-capacity magazines.
Police said Georgakakos was charged in connection with the incident, but the department’s release did not identify the specific charge or charges. He was held pending arraignment in Westhampton Beach Village Justice Court on July 30.
The investigation remains active. Police said additional criminal charges are anticipated as investigators examine evidence recovered during the search.
