Shirley Man Dies After Fight; Two Charged With First-Degree Gang Assault

Two people have been arrested and charged after a man died following a fight at a Shirley home Sunday evening, according to Suffolk County Police.

Police said a resident of a home at 183 Hounslow Road called 911 at approximately 7:30 p.m. on June 14 to report a fight that had injured a man who rented a room at the residence. Officers responded and found Christopher Martin seriously injured.

Martin, 48, was transported to NYU Langone Hospital-Suffolk in Patchogue, where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

Following an investigation, Homicide Squad detectives arrested Korey Sammarco, 36, of Shirley, and Melissa Fawcett, 50, of Central Islip, on June 15. Both were charged with Gang Assault in the First Degree.

Police said Sammarco was being held overnight at the Third Precinct and Fawcett was being held overnight at the Fourth Precinct pending arraignment. Both were scheduled to be arraigned June 16 at First District Court in Central Islip.
