Rob Maurus has always been a collector.
“It’s always been a thing with me,” he said at his new comics and collectable shop in Miller Place. “I always had a room dedicated to this.”
As he spoke, Maurus pointed to the toys, old comics, games, and other collectables inside Lost Toys & Comics during its grand opening on Saturday. The shelves are packed with new and old memorabilia, a dream come true for local collectors who had few places to feed their passions. Maurus, who started hunting for items to pack out his store for months before it opened, said that this is a place even the pickiest collectors can come to find case fresh toys and figures.
“They can come here to complete their collection and find that quality stuff they’re looking for,” he said.
While we spoke about his store, people came in and out, milling around, inspecting the stock that is stacked floor to ceiling.
“There’s definitely gonna be more Pokémon,” he said to a kid flipping through cards.
As for comics, right now he has a number of back issues, including a graded Spider-Man 300 that he was raffling off to anyone who spent $50 or more. No new comics are for sale here.
Maurus, who’s been a manager at Game On right nearby for three years now, said Lost Toys & Comics will only be open on weekends. What inspired him to turn his passion for collecting into a local business?
“It makes people happy,” he said.
