A Hempstead man has been arrested in connection with a September robbery at a Rockville Centre gas station where a 64-year-old employee was slashed in the face with a knife, Nassau County police said.
Saifuddin Abdus-Samad, 56, was charged with two counts of first-degree robbery and one count of first-degree assault following his arrest Thursday, Oct. 8, police said.
The robbery happened at about 3:42 a.m. Sept. 14 at the BP gas station at 2 Sunrise Highway in Rockville Centre.
According to detectives, Abdus-Samad entered the gas station and demanded money from the register. When the employee refused, Abdus-Samad allegedly struck him in the face with a knife, causing a laceration.
Police said Abdus-Samad then took cash from the register and fled on foot. The employee was taken by a Nassau County police ambulance to a local hospital for evaluation.
First Squad detectives located Abdus-Samad in Long Beach on Oct. 8 and arrested him without incident, police said.
Abdus-Samad was scheduled to be arraigned Thursday at First District Court in Hempstead.
