A 22-year-old Wyandanch man has been indicted on rape and sexual abuse charges for allegedly abusing a 6-year-old child on several occasions, Suffolk County prosecutors said.
Nixon Nehemias Marquezmestanza, a Salvadoran national residing in Wyandanch, was indicted on two counts of first-degree rape, first-degree sexual abuse and endangering the welfare of a child.
According to the investigation and indictment, Marquezmestanza had direct childcare access to the child and allegedly sexually abused the victim several times during July and August 2026.
Prosecutors said the child disclosed the alleged abuse to family members after the last incident in August. The family then contacted police.
Marquezmestanza was arrested Aug. 31 following an investigation by the Suffolk County Police Department Special Victims Section.
“This brave young victim told someone, and her family acted on it immediately. That is how these cases come to light,” Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond Tierney said.
Marquezmestanza was arraigned Tuesday, Sept. 15, before Acting Supreme Court Justice Karen M. Wilutis. He was ordered held on $500,000 cash, $1.5 million bond or $5 million partially secured bond.
He is due back in court Oct. 29 and faces up to 25 years in prison if convicted of the top charge.
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Immigration and Customs Enforcement has lodged a detainer seeking custody of Marquezmestanza following the prosecution, according to the DA’s office.
The case is being prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Christina O’Dea of the Child Abuse and Domestic Violence Bureau. Detective Glenys Gonzalez of the Suffolk County Police Department Special Victims Section conducted the investigation.
The charges are accusations, and Marquezmestanza is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
