What started as a routine 911 call in Blue Point quickly turned into something far more disturbing.
Suffolk County Police responded Friday evening to a reported domestic incident at the Shore Motor Inn on South Service Road. But when officers arrived, they say they found signs pointing to something much more serious.
According to police, evidence at the scene indicated possible sex trafficking activity inside the motel.
That discovery triggered an investigation by the Suffolk County Police Department’s Human Trafficking Investigations Unit, along with Fifth Squad detectives.
Just under an hour later, Torrey Brown, 35, described by police as undomiciled and formerly of Queens, was taken into custody at the scene.
Detectives say they recovered multiple items during the investigation, including cellphones, a knife, and other evidence believed to be connected to the case.
Brown has been charged with sex trafficking and promoting prostitution, along with a parole warrant issued by New York State Police. He was held overnight and is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip.
Investigators now believe there may be additional victims connected to the case and are urging anyone with information to come forward.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Suffolk County Police Department’s Human Trafficking Investigations Unit at 631-854-7512.
Authorities remind the public that a criminal charge is an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
